The 4th is a favorite holiday for many, full of memories of hot dogs, fireworks, and hopefully the people you love. For me the most exciting part is thinking about a bowl of fresh watermelon by the pool.
But not everyone has a pool, or a big family or group of friends who will throw a party. (Although that would be amazing) So you might find yourself at a loss of ideas when celebrating the US of A. But lucky for you, we have done the scouting so you don't have to! Don't worry you don't need to send flowers, just go out and have a fun day for us okay?
But we should probably start with a history lesson. History went down when the 13 original colonies claimed their independence from England, to create this wonderful country we call home. This happened in 1776, can you say THROWBACK?! Over here we think it's important to remember the history of our country as we eat too much watermelon.
Now for the fun stuff! No matter where you are in the Salt Lake Valley, you can always find fun Fourth of July festivities! Fun Fourth of July festivities.... Say that 10 times fast!
If you’d rather cheer on your team than sit by the pool you can do that! We’ve written about the Salt Lake Bees before. We love going to their ball games! On the Fourth of July the Bees play the El Paso Chihuahuas. Not only should it be an awesome game, but there’s fireworks after the show! And hey, all tickets are under $30! Buy them here. Real Salt Lake is also playing. Tickets start at $30, but experiencing a good soccer game in Rio Tinto is always worth it.
The Stadium of Fire is a classic Utah event, and is one of the most exciting events in Utah! This year you can hear country all star, three time Grammy winner, Tim McGraw in concert. The event is this Saturday, July 2nd for those of you who want to celebrate early. Tickets can be purchased here. Over 40,000 attend the stadium of fire each year, and we can see why. There’s nothing like singing along to an incredible country stars number one hits (McGraw has 25!), on a holiday celebrating this country.
If you don’t want to make a drive all the way up to Provo, we suggest you take a drive to Park City. Not only are the temperatures cooler, but there will so many fun events! Start things off bright and early at 7am with some delicious pancakes. Feel free to eat as many as you want, because there’s a fun run 5K at 8am. Then at 10am the real fun starts. There will be good grub, good music, and good fun until 5pm! You can even expect a parade at 11 am! Stick around until dusk to enjoy some fireworks at the Park City Mountain Resort. More info here.
Sugarhouse is really bringing the fun this year! One thing we love about being in Sugar House is the abundance of animals and animal lovers. On the 4th at 9:15 am there will be a pet parade! The only parade that sounds better than a Disneyland one... If you're not a pet person there will be the Sugar House Arts Festival at 2100 S. from 10 am to 6 pm. And you can't miss the legendary Sugar House Park Fireworks! Food and fun start at 4 pm, but the magic (fireworks) start at 10 pm. Get more information, including directions, parking, and traffic over here.
If you’re just looking for a good fireworks show in the evening, here’s a list of where to find them. Remember to be safe!
Enjoy your day of fun while celebrating the land of the free!
