As we clean our homes for Spring, we often find ourselves with extra items we want to get rid of. Here's all the places to donate them! While you're at it, why don't you donate some of your time as well?

Savers is second hand store we love to support. Their whole mission is based on recycling, and they’re responsible for diverting more than 650 million pounds of goods from landfills each year. Not only do they sell donated goods to give them a new purpose, but they partner with recyclers that take unpurchased clothes and make reusable rags and textiles out of them. They sell metals from buckles, zippers, and other details in your clothes so they can be used for their raw value. Go here to find your nearest location and appropriate times to donate.

Each Savers also supports a local non profit organization. They choose partners that improve education, fight disease, and help children and families. By shopping at Savers you are funding and supporting these wonderful organizations. Learn more here.

Unused clothes are donated to overseas for reselling purposes. Instead of simply donating more clothes than the country needs, Savers has the markets resell them to improve their local economies and provide more jobs. Learn more here

Big Brothers Big Sisters:

The Big Brother Big Sister Organization is an important one. Have you ever taken a moment to think about the examples and older people in your life you had to look up to? A parent, teacher, or any kind of mentor? Having a strong example of leadership is so important. We love this program because it provides children with an opportunity to receive this! This requires a year commitment, so make sure you’re ready for it. If you are, it’s so worth it! Here’s an opportunity to make a special relationship in your life, and offer guidance and support. As a “Big” you get to take your “Little” to do fun activities like walks in the park, school projects, going to museums, listening to music, and just talking. The mentorship program matches you based on someone you would be compatible with, and help to the best of your abilities. You don’t need special degrees or job skills to be a Big, so don’t let anything hold you back! Learn more here

The Road Home:

The Road Home also needs volunteer service! Donate your time by helping with kid’s book club, helping the front desk, and more! They offer group service opportunities, Eagle Scout opportunities, and a chance to help at the permanent housing unit, Palmer Court. Not all volunteer options are completely time consuming, so don’t hesitate to see what you can do to help! These only require a 3 month commitment. Read more about volunteer opportunities here

Humane Society:

The Human Society of Utah is full of a loving staff and animals who want to be loved. If you’ve ever visited you have seen it for yourself. If you have a soft spot for animals this could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. They have over 1,400 active volunteers so it’s clear to see it’s a valuable experience. Help with Rabbit, Dog, and Cat Care, Special Events, Adoption Assistance, Grooming, General Duties, Foster Care and more! Read more about the programs here

If you want to donate funds, you can become a monthly donor here

If you really want to donate some time, adopt an animal! They have a state-of-the-art clinic with two full time licensed veterinarians, and they offer affordable adopting opportunities for dogs, cats, and rabbits. Learn more about adoption here!
