Ballet West does a beautiful rendition of a classic Christmas tale every year. Just thinking about the Nutcracker makes me remember going as a little girl. It’s so fun to dress up and attend something so elegant during the holidays. With historic choreography by William Christensen and a score by Tchaikovsky, attendance is sure to put you in good spirits. Here’s the catch. Next year the production is getting completely redone. Next year the cast is getting brand new updated look, so this year is the last to appreciate their classic sets and costumes.You better go next year too, so you can see the amazing new pieces, they’ve promised it’s magic.

CenterPoint Legacy Theater
Everybody enjoys the classic film ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, during the holidays right? It’s the perfect story to remind you what’s really important in life. Enjoy the heart warming tale in person at the CenterPoint Legacy Theater. It runs until December 22. It’s a drama and a comedy, so the whole family will be invested. Another timeless Christmas tale is ‘A Christmas Carol’, which tells the story of a grumpy businessman who has no idea what Christmas is all about as he learns more about his past, present, and future. This production features a musical powerhouse, promised to awe. is there anything more powerful than good music during the Holidays? This show runs until December 23. Get filled with the 1960’s nostalgia by attending the ‘Winter Wonderettes’ performance, and see four friends put on a magical performance in their local hardware store. It runs until December 17.

Latkes are our favorite way to eat potatoes. There's a reason they're so good during this time of year. Potatoes and onions are fresh and in season! Every winter movie has an ice skating scene right? Make your own ice skating adventure by taking advantage of the fun rinks Utah has to offer. Downtowns very own Gallivan Center is a fabulous option. With a large rink and a stellar location, skating to your favorite songs has never been more fun. There’s beautiful lighting around the rink and holiday cheer in the air. Utah's Hogle Zoo is a blast to visit any time of the year, but especially during December! The whole zoo is decorated with intricate lights telling stories and amazing everyone who enters. You can even purchase special 3D glasses that make the lights really come to life. They've promised this year will be bigger and brighter that ever! Hot chocolate and yummy treats are available for enjoyment as well. The star of the show is the 135 foot tunnel that's completely strung with lights, light show included. Zoo Lights will be shining until December 31, starting at 5:30 in the evening. Buy tickets here!
Just walking around Gardner Village with a hot cocoa in hand is fun. But now until December 24th you can participate in an elf scavenger hunt! Spy on Santa’s helpers as they get ready for Christmas by sorting letters, assembling the naughty and nice list, and making toys. Download the Villages app and it will take you on the official scavenger hunt, or download the list here. If you’re 12 and under you’ll even receive a piece of free Saltwater taffy! Gardner Village is open 10am to 8pm Monday through Saturday, Christmas Eve until 4pm, and closed Christmas.
The Jingle Bus
Now this is a fun tradition to start that happens to be free! A holiday themed ride takes passengers on a tour going to and from The Gateway, Temple Square, City Creek Center, Gallivan Plaza & Capitol Theatre. It’s perfect to ride if you just want to enjoy Downtown Salt Lake City, or if you’re a shopper going from place to place. It’s perfect if you have visitors in for the holidays, the volunteer hosts on the bus will be sharing fun facts about our city! It’s also a fantastic way to meet and chat with new people instead of fighting them for parking spots.
The Jingle Bus operates from 5pm to 10pm, 7 days a week free of charge, courtesy of the SLC Downtown Alliance, City Creek Center & The Gateway.
If you’re a dog lover and a Christmas lover, you have to bring your four legged best friend to City Creek Center to meet Santa Claus. It’s perfect for Christmas cards, we won’t judge you for making one for your dog. Make sure your canine is up to date with shots, and promises to behave.
City Creek and Willow Creek Pet Center does this every November and December, the last day to do it is Tuesday December 13.
