Cottonwood Heights, aka “Utah’s Newest City” is between Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon. It’s got great residential neighborhoods, full of wonderful families and schools. It’s a perfect location for people who want a suburban meets mountain lifestyle…..
I mean, you could go from shopping at Target to hiking up Big Cottonwood Canyon in the blink of an eye. You could go from a Brighton High School sporting event to doing a run at Brighton Ski Resort in the same afternoon!
Speaking of Target…. Cottonwood Heights is home to a huge Super Target, located at 7025 Park Centre Dr. Which basically means they have everything you could ever need and more. If you’re a fan of fashion, beauty, healthy living, or decor, we highly recommend you follow the popular instagram account, “Target Does it Again”. It’s an account which showcases the new arrivals and best products of Target, updated almost daily. Lucky for the Cottonwood Heights residents, this Target is always up to date and stocked with the best items.
The Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center is sure to be a source of entertainment. This affordable recreation center is located at 7500 South 2700 East, right next to Butler Middle School. It has an indoor pool with a kids play area, and lap pool, and a diving pool. Outside they have another splash zone for children, two slides (perfect for racing), and a 3 tier platform. Oh, and an Olympic sized racing pool. They also have a killer sauna and hot tub. They have a complete fitness room, aerobic classes and personal training (water aerobics included!), youth sports, racquetball courts, indoor track, a basketball court, and tennis courts and lessons! Don’t worry childcare is also an option for all you parents. Members have group access to courts, so it could be the perfect way to become the favorite in your friend group.
Oh, and the funnest part? The ice rink open year round! Not only is it fun during the holidays, but it’s the perfect way to cool off in the summer. Lessons are always offered for those who want to get the full-on icy experience.
The Rec Center also organizes Movies in the Park, aka the perfect FREE family event. Four Fridays in June and July are chosen for this magical night. Each one is a different movie held at a different park, giant blow up screen included. Enjoy a free movie, but bring your wallets, snacks and food are available for purchase. Is a movie complete without popcorn? The movies being shown this summer are, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Zootopia, and Aladdin. There’s a movie genre for everyone in the family. The full schedule is here.
The best mexican food in Salt Lake City is found at a not-so-hidden hole in the wall joint in Cottonwood Heights. Lonestar Taqueria (not to be confused with the steakhouse) is worth a visit, and a wait in line. The sometimes massive line reflects how much we Utahns love the place. We don’t know a soul who has been there that hasn’t loved it.
The environment is perfect for the warmer weather. There’s nothing like cracking open a bottle of Mexican Coca Cola on their patio while waiting for your fish tacos to arrive. You have to order the fish tacos! Not only fresh and delicious but they mix it up by offering a variety
of fish. Not in the mood for fish tacos? The chicken salad also has the power to make your day. Don’t let the word “salad” intimidate you. Their salad is served with beans, fresh salsa guacamole, chips, and cheese. I’d recommend adding fresh chicken on top. Did I mention the fish? That tastes really good on your salad too.
Guy Fieri from Food Network’s “Diners Drive-Ins and Dives," even gave the tacos a try. Check it out here!
Cottonwoods is a fun and happening place for everyone, and especially is a great place to raise your family. We invite you to join in on all the fun!
